RENEWABLE POWER CAN PROVIDE ALL OUR NEEDS

Sunday September 24, 2006

The Observer

Your leader 'No more green posturing - the planet can't wait' (last week), is right to emphasise the urgent need for deep cuts in CO2 emissions. But there is good evidence to show that you are quite wrong to suggest that 'Britain needs new nuclear power stations. This is the only way to provide the volume of power that the country needs' ...

A recent report by professional engineers, commissioned by the German government, shows in detail how Europe, including the UK, can generate all the electricity it needs from renewable sources such as wind, waves and the sun, make deep cuts in CO2, and phase out nuclear power at the same time.

Far too many commentators are making assertions about future energy supplies without the benefit of reliable evidence or thorough analysis. The report, entitled TRANS-CSP, plugs that gap. Further information may be found at trec-uk.org.uk.
